Built for the green hell: The Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition

One thing’s for sure: this car truly lives up to its name. The Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition was specifically developed for the legendary German racetrack. It became the most thoroughly tested Japanese car ever to hit the Nürburgring, development and testing began all the way back in 2004 and only wrapped up around 2011.

Despite all that testing, this particular version of the LFA has only been spotted three times in Nürburg, making it an incredibly rare sight! One of those lucky moments came thanks to spotter SpotterJDL, who managed to capture this exact car, which, until now, had only ever been spotted in Düsseldorf.

This LFA is finished in the iconic orange paint that's often associated with the Nürburgring Edition. Lexus only offered this edition in four colors total: matte black, black, white, and orange.

While the standard LFA was often described as a street car that happened to be capable on a track, the Nürburgring Edition flipped that idea, it was very much a track-focused machine that also happened to be road-legal. And yet, even on racetracks, it remains a true unicorn, only 50 units were ever built!

We all know about the LFA’s legendary exhaust note, but what exactly sets this edition apart beyond its name and ultra-limited production?

For starters, it features a much more aggressive look thanks to a larger carbon fiber front lip. The active rear spoiler, which normally rises out of the back of a regular LFA, has been swapped out for a fixed, larger rear wing. The Nürburgring Edition also sits 10 mm lower than the standard model and rides on lightweight wheels, giving it an even more extreme appearance.

To make sure it could still hit the same top speed despite the added downforce, Lexus bumped the power up to 563 hp, allowing the car to reach an impressive 323 km/h.

All of these upgrades make the Nürburgring Edition more than worthy of its name, and more than capable. It clocked a seriously impressive lap time of 7:14.89 on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, a staggering feat for a car released back in 2012.
